Mdm Chitra called upon the terminology Gods, and i learnt the worship of...
Farce, Satire, Parody, Lampoons(My favourite), aphorisms, epigrams, maxim.
We browsed through some of Oscar Wilde's epigrams, and were totally blown away by his wit, or left having our brains denatured from overheating...
Some of the epigrams i instantly fell in love are:
Only the shallow know themselves.
Time is a waste of money.
To be premature is to be perfect.
Ambition is the last refuge of the failure.
A truth ceases to be true when more than one person believes in it.
In examinations the foolish ask questions that the wise cannot answer.
The old believe everything: the middle-aged suspect everything: the young know everything.
To love oneself is the beginning of a life-long romance.
A well-tied tie is the first serious step in life.
Action is the last refuge of those who cannot dream.
All bad poetry springs from genuine feeling.
Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination.
Arguments are to be avoided; they are always vulgar and often convincing.
Consistency is the last refuge of the unimaginative. (My favourite of favourites)
Everyone who is incapable of learning has taken to teaching.
Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months.
I am the only person in the world i should like to know thoroughly.
I love acting. It is so much more real than life.
Illusion is the first of all pleasures.
It is a very sad thing that nowadays ther is so little useless information.
It is absurd to divide people into good and bad, People are either charming or tedious.
Philanthropy is the refuge of the rich people who wish to annoy their fellow creatures.
Popularity is the one insult i have never suffered.
Punctuality is the thief of time. (Great excuse for late comers)
Sometimes it takes courage to give into temptation.
The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it.
The advantage of the emotions is that they lead us astray.
There is no sin except stupidity.
We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.
Whenever people agree with me i always feel i must be wrong.
There are only two kinds of people who are really fascinating: people who know absolutely everything, and people who know absolutely nothing.
It is okay if your brain has denatured by now.
Mine did too, this is less than one third of the epigrams i have at hand.
I put up the ones that are easier to understand.
